Tis the Season to be Jolly at Treasures Anew

Dear Consignors and Clients,

Thank you all for coming out to our “Snowflake Weekend Sale”.  We had a wonderful turnout and you all seemed to enjoy the event

Many thanks to all who helped us fill our store with some lovely seasonal items.  Our Christmas tree is laden with some unusual ornaments  — from vintage to modern, fabric to glass (add them to your gifts for that “extra touch”).  In addition, we have nativity scenes, lit village houses, wreathes, garlands, mats, snow babies (pristine and with boxes), indoor and outdoor lights, and so much more…  We have so much that I sometimes think that we should be renamed “The Christmas Store”!

And if this is the time of the year that you love to host parties, you can sure make an impression with some of the quality items that just arrived.  Wine always tastes better from crystal.   Or maybe you’d like to abandon your stand-by white china and switch to china that is truly seasonal – turkey tastes so much better on plates that are festive.

And if your stemware and china need to be caressed by more than just a polyester tablecloth, we’ve got linen that will compliment your accessory pieces.  So if you’re looking for something different to make your parties stand out, check us out.  We just might have what you need.

And if you’re not pondering what and how to fete our guests, you’re probably scratching your heads about what gifts you could give.  Check out our web site — www.treasuresanew.ca – to get some ideas.  To get you started, why not think about:

Summer Comes to Treasures Anew

Dear Consignors and Clients,

Did you enjoy Canada Day? Did you take advantage of all the festivals that commemorate this wonderful event?  With each July 1st event, I revel about how lucky we are to live in such a great country, especially when you read about all the misery that plagues so many nations.  As a first generation Canadian, I cannot thank my parents enough for having taken the plunge and worked so many menial jobs to establish their presence in Canada.  I’m only one of thousands of Canadians whose parents chose to immigrate to Canada.  They had no idea what the future held for them.  But through very hard work, they stayed, worked through language and anti-immigrant sentiments and made Canada their home.

Happy Holidays

Ho, Ho, Ho – All Consignors and Clients,

Are you in the mood yet? Getting your house all decked out? If you’re anything like me, you just can’t remember where you placed all your favourite decorations. You’re sure that you put them in that special bin marked “decorations” but darned if they’re not there. And then the search begins. It can last for hours. You look high and low, in every nook and cranny but they’re not to be found. After fruitless hours of searching, you finally break down and go out to buy a replacement. Personally, I think that there’s a conspiracy between anything that gets lost and our missing socks from the dryer…find the socks and you will find everything else that’s gone missing.

Lost or not, when you come to Treasures Anew, you’re bound to find something — maybe not what you’re trying to replace but perhaps something better. We’ve been inundated with some very unique, quality holiday items. This is not surprising given that many of these items are being brought to us by people who are downsizing. They are gracing us with some delectable pieces that they bought when countries such as England, United States and Germany ruled supreme, when quality was commonplace.

Treasures Anew open Monday, Oct 8: noon -4 pm

Given the trauma that our City recently suffered due to the tornadoes that affected so many of us, it makes the Thanksgiving holiday even more poignant this year. To add to that, October has always been a month of transition. We have such conflicting feelings: we’re sad that yet another summer has passed and anxious about the coming winter. But it’s still a glorious month. I’m always in awe at the beauty of the changing leaves. And, of course, the leaves are at their prime during the Thanksgiving weekend.

Speaking of the long weekend, we know that many of you will be enjoying the holiday with family and friends. Food will abound and we’ll all be a bit heavier on Tuesday morning (but it is so worth it!). You just might feel a bit sleepy and torpid from eating all that turkey and yet you really don’t want to sleep the afternoon away. Why not shake off that sluggish feeling by coming down to Treasures Anew? Spend a leisurely couple of hours just poking around. We’ll be open from noon to 4 pm. And yes, we will be open Sunday, October 7 from 11 am to 5 pm.

In the past, we’ve given you a list of what are clients are looking for. We thought we’d shake things up a bit and tell you what are clients are not looking for. This might help you decide what to bring in the next time you consign with us.

Some of the items that are not ‘moving’ are: collector plates, prints (as opposed to original art), liquor, sherry and parfait glasses, vases, small and medium size baskets, dish sets, silver plate items (excluding flatware), creams and sugars, candle sticks and tea light holders, brass pieces, table and floor lamps. If our clients’ interest in these items change, we’ll be sure to let you know. If you’re in doubt, either call us or email photos of the items that you would like to consign before bringing them in.

To prepare for our seasonal intake, we will begin to take seasonally-related items on Thursday, October 18. The last day for intake of these items will be December 5. Given our limited space, we will give preference to unusual or higher quality items.

Wishing you a warm, blessed Thanksgiving.
